On the heels of the great CV3 Allende fall earlier the same year, Murchison was also in a great position to be thoroughly studied by virtue of NASA's analysis capabilities, which had been established in anticipation of lunar sample returns from the Apollo missions beginning in the summer of 1969. Murchison has high carbon content, about 12% water and 92 amino acids - only 19 of which have been identified on Earth. This led to Murchison being labeled an "egg," as it well could be representative of material that ultimately seeded life on our planet. Acquired from The Robert Haag Collection of meteorites (page 77).
